Making ¢ents

Land of Lincoln Credit Union wants LLCU wants to help young members build a strong financial future! With LLCU MAKING ¢ENTS YOUTH PROGRAM, they will have the tools and resources to do so. Our PENNY, NICKEL, and DIME Accounts were developed for different age groups in order to evolve with the changing needs of our youth as they grow older. As our young members transition through the “MAKING ¢ENTS” categories, they will be equipped with resources and tools to make sound financial decisions and plans relevant to their own age level.

Dime Account

The teen years brings about more responsibility. The LLCU DIME ACCOUNT will help them learn to take on more financial responsibility, while giving parents optimal supervision to their spending. With the DIME ACCOUNT, your teen may have their own LLCU Debit Card. You, the parent, can control how much is deposited, how much is spent, all while working with your teen to budget and plan. DIME ACCOUNT holders will be given a registry to keep track of deposits and debits, moving them one step closer to managing a checking account. At the end of the year, they can bring in their register to be stamped for a prize!

Parents, Grandparents & Guardians

Money smart habits can start at a very young age! You can help your kid or teen start these habits and you may even learn a few things yourself while helping them. Opening a MAKING ¢ENTS YOUTH ACCOUNT with you kid is a great starting point but we would like to share a few extra resources to help a long the way.

Parent & Guardian Resources

Lead by Example

Show your kid or teen your monthly budget or even let them sit in on the conversation while creating it. Not sure how to create your budget? Check out this article from Balance™ Twelve Months To Financial Fitness: Building a Budget or come into your nearest LLCU Branch to speak with one of our Certified Financial Counselors.

Get Creative

Have your kid(s) plan dinner one night! Set a price point for the meal, take them to the store, and help guide them towards items that fit within the budget. This could be something to do on a regular basis - once a month or once a week. Even better if they can do the cooking and cleaning afterward too!

Low Cost Entertaining: Spring is here and Summer is quickly approaching! If you want to save on a weekend get away - try camping at home. Either set up camp in the living room or backyard. Try to make it as authentic as possible: s'mores, campfire, a walk through the neighborhood or nearby park, study the stars, etc.
